HYERES 79 - 54 OLDHAM OWLS Friday evening saw the Owls against host club Hyeres who boasted French legends Phillipe Baye and Yo-Yo Boustilla. Unfortunately Oldham could not contain the duo who gave a shooting lesson on three pointers as they hit a massive 94% (15 from 17) as the Owls were routed by 25 points.
Scorers: Johnson 12, Thomas 12, Howley 10, Hayes 8, Orogbemi 6, Finbow 4 and Peel 2.

OLDHAM OWLS 87 - 53 ILAM KESEM MR HADERA Saturday morning saw Oldham on court against the Israelis. The game had a slow start as the Owls were confronted by three tall players but kept their noses in front to take the first quarter 22-18. This continued to half time as Oldham lead 40-33. The next period was crucial with the Owls allowing Ilam Kesem only three baskets as Oldham killed the game with their fast break basketball to lead 66-39 at three quarter time, finally running out easy winners.
Scorers: Finbow 20, Peel 14, Hayes 12, Thomas 12, Howley 10, Orogbemi 8, Johnson 6, Pullen 5 and Woodward 3.

GSD PORTO TORRES 74 - 61 OLDHAM OWLS Next came the the big game against Porto Torres who boasted ex-Owl Simon Munn who has been sorely missed since his departure last summer. The first half was closely fought with the Sardinians just taking advantage by five points 42-37. Then the wheels came off Oldham's offence big style as they managed just six points in the the third 10 minute period as Porto Torres added 16, to lead 58-43. The Owls came out knowing they had to win in order to give themselves any chance of qualifying for the finals. True northern English grit was shown as Oldham took the quarter by the narrowest of margin 18-16. Unfortunately this was not enough as the Sardinians held on to win by 13.
Scorers: Hayes 17, Finbow 14, Howley 12, Thomas 7, Orogbemi 6 and Peel 5.

OLDHAM OWLS 74 - 61 SANDRA GRAN CANARIAS With the prospect of qualification gone up in smoke Oldham had only their pride and third place to play for against the final Spanish opponents. Once again the Owls didn't get out of the changing rooms until half time as they trailed 25-33. Oldham came out at the start of the second half with a bit of fire in their bellies and things took a turn for the better as at the end of the third quarter the Owls had pulled back the deficit 41-41. The fourth period was marred by some atrocious refereeing decisions as Oldham were crucified by the final whistle, going down by 3.
Scorers: Howley 18, Finbow 12, Johnson 9, Thomas 8, Orogbemi 6, Hayes 4 and Peel 2. |
